SOLO Impression located in Riverdale Bronx, NY is a fine art printmaking studio specializing in hand printing lithography, woodcut, large format inkjet printing and digital embroidery on fabric and paper. Founded in 1975 by Judith Solodkin, the first woman Tamarind Master Printer, SOLO Impression has collaborated with artists such as Ghada Amer, Richard Bosman, Louise Bourgeois, Jane Dickson, Françoise Gilot, Judy Chicago, Sonya Clark, Howard Hodgkin, Beryl Korot, Joyce Kozloff, Robert Kushner, Whitfield Lovell, Michael Mazur, Liliana Porter, Elaine Reichek, Betye Saar, Jean Shin, John Torreano, Betty Woodman, Joe Zucker.

Many print shops regard the role of the printer as an artisan, a tool to be used by the artist. SOLO impression takes a more collaborative position, working closely with the artist to use Judith’s knowledge to develop their images to their fullest.

Works published by SOLO Impression can be found in many important private and public collections such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum, the Whitney Museum, the New York Public Library Print Collection, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the National Gallery of Art, the Bibliothèque Nationale, and the Tate Gallery, to name a few.

SOLO Impression is exhibiting a retrospective of prints printed during the last 48 years. We will be featuring the works of Louise Bourgeois, Judy Chicago, Jane Dickson, Lois Dodd, Françoise Gilot, Robert Kushner, Betty Woodman, Andrea Zittel, Joe Zucker, and Michael Zwack,

Six locations and many iterations of SOLO Impression allowed us to print fine art lithography from stone and plate and large format prints. On our large letterpress we printed books, woodcuts and broadsides and a large scale inkjet printer opened up possibilities for printing on fabric. Presently along with the mix is digital embroidery and a variety of sewing machines. My staff contributed their knowledge and skill over the years. And the strong work reflects their participation.

SOLO Impression has acted as publisher but also contract printer to artists, museums, and galleries. The prints display the scope of our accomplishments and collaborations.
