Established in 1937 in Boston’s Back Bay, Childs Gallery holds an extensive inventory of paintings, prints, drawings, watercolors, and sculpture - focusing on fine American and European artwork, dating from the Renaissance through Contemporary. To that end, our clients can choose prints and drawings that range from Old Masters like Rembrandt, Goya, and Piranesi, to Whistler and all the 20th century notables, along with superb paintings and sculpture from the past 200 years. The gallery also shows select contemporary artists working in traditional media whose practices connect with art history cannon. Our inventory emphasizes women artists of the last century, mid-20th century American Modernism, Abstract Expressionism, Boston Expressionism, Social and Magic Realism, queer artists, and other important genres and movements.

For the Print Fair’s 30th edition, Childs Gallery’s booth will highlight older, historical material in conversation with works by our contemporary artists, provoking a thoughtful look at the commonalities and distinctions between old and new, traditional and experimental. Joan Hall returns with another monumental installation, combining historical printmaking techniques with modern materials and messaging to create mesmerizing paper sculptures that advocate for marine preservation. Woodblock printmaker and political artist William Evertson presents two new pieces, Ginni and the Supremes and Samuel Beset by Dürer's Witch, emphasizing the current politicization of the Supreme Court by referencing historical prints by John Faed and Albrecht Dürer, respectively. The gallery will also showcase several artists from the LGBTQ+ community, including transfeminine, transdisciplinary collaborative printmaker Opal Ecker DeRuvo, whose current work investigates the origins of photography within the materiality and history of printmaking.
Additionally, our booth will showcase works by Goya, Edward Hopper, Rembrandt, and members of the Taller de Gráfica Popular including Jose Clemente Orozco, as well as perennial Childs Gallery favorites Erik Desmazières, Emily Lombardo, Margaret Rose Vendryes, and others.
